HAPPY ANNIVERSARY BLOG. It’s been two, that’s right, two years since I started theEvan DavisJazz Blog. A way to help promote local entertainment in Vegas. It started with a few flyers and a few reviews and now there is a calendar of what’s going on in town at the local scene. There are a few shows that aren’t strictly local, but than again so what. I want to thank everyone for there support and good wishes over the past year. Life is too short, so enjoy and stay true to yourself.

WOW, STAYING UP late has its rewards. Last night, Tuesday August 30th, was Frankie Moreno at the Palms. It always feels like he’s playing in your living room and everyone is having a ball. Other than the ringing in my ears for 12 hours afterwards, he’s a no miss party on Tuesday nights. He’s playing at other places around town (check out my calendar) but you better get to see him soon, because his star is on the rise with his Sony Record contract and you’ll have to pay the big bucks to see him. With Gordie Brown there, almost every week buying rounds for the band, you can imagine how rowdy the boys can get. Oh, and the string section comprised of three lovely ladies. Hey Gordie, include me in the shots next time. Also, a very pleasant surprise guest was Lena Prima. The energy in the room certainly helped her knock it out of the park. Great job Lena. Rumor has it; she may be spending a lot of time performing inNew Orleans. Good luck to her.
We had a great dinner, the night before, while Joan Rivers entertained us with her dry wit and in your face attitude. Or was that Kelly Clinton? My mistake. Kelly’s Cabaret, at the Bootlegger Bistro, had its usual latish start but was well worth the wait. We got to see a lot of old friends and met a few new ones. Jack Jones and his lovely wife Eleonora were there. Jack just had, what I heard was, a successful weekend show at the Southpoint Hotel & Casino. Of course Clint Holmes was there and other great talent such as Bill Fayne, LisaGay & Tony Drake, Mark O’Toole, Kenny Davidson and scores of others. It was a very enjoyable Monday night, finally. One I will repeat.
