Will The Real Frank Sinatra Please Stand Up

I think I’ll start backwards, if you don’t mind, with our third stop of the night at Chianti Café. ‘It was around midnight;’ Johnny Hartman does a great rendition of that song. When we walked in, I was with 2 good looking blondes; and there was Gary Anthony  singing one of Sinatra’s standards and showing that he can still shimmy. It reminded me of an old Ann Margaret movie. Gary is always entertaining. At first glance, it looked like an audition room for the Rat Pack. By the way, this is Larry Liso’s gig Thursday through Saturday. Lots of friends had stopped by to help celebrate the coming of Sunday. I’ll just run down the list of performers who were there, in no specific order. Justin Olsen, Mark Verabian, CJ Sinestro, Carmine Mandia, Dennis Mellen and Ned Mills. Singing, drinking and rubbing elbows with the few patrons fortunate enough to have stayed around after dinner. Chianti café may just be that hidden after hours joint we’ve all been looking for on Saturday night. They do have a great menu, friendly proprietor and a well stocked bar.

Earlier that evening, in the Addison Room at the Rampart, we had the pleasure to hear, and see Lena Prima commemorate her dad’s 99th birthday, with many of the songs Louie Prima wrote and sang to fame, in his day. Her special guest was Joe Joe Spaghetti Moretti (Kelly Clinton) always a treat.  Lena’s band was also spot on, with some wonderful solos by Steve Johnson (sax) and John Torres (drums). The other members were husband Tim Fahey (bass), Gary Cordell (trumpet), Randy Crawford (trombone) and Dan Ellis (keyboards). “Sing, Sing, Sing,” with Lena slipping in for a portion of the drum solo.

We then went down to the Stirling Club and was treated to the vocals of Elisa Fiorello (now touring with Prince) and the real Kelly Clinton. Nicholas Brooks joined the duo for a few numbers. Look for him around town (Sammy Davis rat pack). After a drink and a bite to eat, we headed to the top of the page. To bad Maxx (our Bichone) gets us up at 5:30 every morning. The price you pay for unconditional love.

Thanks for the Info

I was at Bugsys on Thursday and Friday. I personally perfer the Friday. It is quieter and the band was great. No bongos. Try it on a Friday night.
Gordon Biersch was fantastic this Sunday. Millard Jackson has put together a great band and featured Sid the Kid on sax. Fantastic musician. Made the afternoon! Look up his website. Hope we can hear them again soon—-find out where and when!
