IF you haven’t been down to the Palms to hear those cats wail. I have no idea how anyone can stay in their seats. The music just calls you to get up and move. I actually look forward to Monday nights, not Tuesday mornings, but Monday nights.
Last night, Santa Fe and The Fat City Horns, had a few guest performers that helped “rock the house”. Michito Sanchez, Chiqui Garcia, and Michael Cavanaugh . Catch some great photos from last nights gig at Bobby G’s site. It Doesn’t Get Better Than This.
We spent a few hours, 11:30 to 4, at the 2009 Las Vegas Blues Festival at Lorenzi Park. The Lucky Cheats, Glenn Partik and Ronnie Rose, were the acts we caught, in-between Mayor Oscar Goodman making a guest and comedic appearance. The Lucky Cheats and Glenn Patrik were strictly Blues, while Ronnie Rose threw in some R & B and got the crowd up dancing in the grass. He always knows how to motivate a crowd. The close to 100 degree temperature and lack of quick available food, was the only discomfort of the afternoon.
Later that evening (8 PM) Sandi, my wife, and I stopped by to see a keyboard and vocalist I’ve enjoyed before, back up a group called Justice League at the Rampart. The chemistry just wasn’t there, although some couples got up for dancing. What I thought was more of a bluesy group, tried to entertain with a rock music theme. The sound board had the reverb and bass up to high, which made it tough to hear the vocals, and somewhat difficult on the eardrums. And maybe they were just a victim of the venue.
If anyone’s heard that group before, please let me know what YOU thought.
